According to Pfeiffer Family of Pensacola, Avery retired after 38 years of service as a pilot for the US Public Health Merchant Marine From his obituary: 8/5/1978 Avery E. Jorden, 75, of 816 E. LaRua St. died Saturday at his home. Mr Jordan was a native of Florida and had resided in Pensacola most of his life. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the Knights of Columbus and was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired civil service employee. Mr. Jorden is survived by two brothers, Noah Jorden of Holley and Eben Jorden of Pensacola, and two sisters, Ira Alford of Gulf Breeze and Irma Gates of Pensacola. Funeral services will be 10am Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral with the Rev. Luke Hunt officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jose Martinez, James B. Nelson, John Cobb and Francis Grice. Burial will be at St. Michael;s Cemetery with Walters & Hibbert Funeral Home directing. The rosary will be recited 7pm Sunday in the Walters & Hibbert chapel. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 9pm.
