  • OBITUARY

Austin C. McKee, son of Rev. Milton and Elizabeth McKee was born May 30, 1870, and departed this life January 16, 1936, at his home, 1310 East Pike street at the age of 65 years, 7 months and 16 days.
He was born in Decatur county. At the age of 14 years he came to Morgan county, living in Liberty neighborhood.
He was united in marriage Aug. 8, 1891 to Martha E. Neal: to this union were born four children - three sons and one daughter.
Mr. McKee is survived by his wife, three sons, Harry McKee, of Indianapolis, William McKee of Morgantown, Arthur McKee, of this city (one daughter, Nellie McKee Bailey preceded her father in death), two brothers, Charles McKee, of this city, and William McKee, of Van Buren, Indiana, two sisters, Nancy Schoolcraft of this city, and Mrs. Ella Welty of Canon City, Colorado, eleven grand children and one step grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews who will mourn their loss.
Mr McKee had not been well for some time but had been about his work as usual until five weeks before his death when he was taken seriously ill with heart trouble and a complication of diseases. Death came very suddenly while one of his friends was making a call on him.
Austin McKee, commonly known as Aus, moved from the Liberty neighborhood with his family in 1903.
He entered into the contracting and building business. He was associated with Fred Cramer at that time, and later on formed a partnership with Robert Howell, contractor in building, cement work and house moving.
Austin was of a jovial disposition, always meeting his friends in a pleasant way, and was well respected by a large number of friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father.
He always made any one feel welcome in his home and was always interested in all business affairs of this city that would make it a better city to live in.
He was a member of Martinsville Christian church.
Thus has the sun set upon another life sojourning upon this earth.
  This poem adds beautiful sentiment.
  Just beyond the river Jordan,
  Just across its chilly tide.
There's a land of life eternal,
Through its vales sweet waters glide.
There the plants from earth transplanted,
For their coming watch and wait.
  In that upper garden growing,
  Just within the Golden Gate.

(Second obituary says Austin was a carpenter for 34 years and burial was in South Park Cemetery).
