William S. Campbell 1974-letter to Lucinda Seitz (Beck) Clark from Aurelia Dear Cindy Your Christmas greeting was the first one to be received and best wishes for a fine holiday to you all. The year 1974 was not good to me --- just one frustration after another. I haven’t found a house in W. Va. After trying all summer & to end up the year I just spent a week in the Calvert Memorial Hospital for a check-up to see why my digestive system has been out of whack. The intestinal tract was found to harbor a polyp which was forthwith removed & has proved benign. I was x-rayed from top to bottom & nothing else proved amiss. Am fine now --- the medicine for my tummy relieved the digestive trouble & all is normal again. Besides the polyp I lost several pounds (a good result) as well as several ounces of silver (a bad result). But I’m not complaining; I got off easy! But I’ll be very happy to usher 1974 out nevertheless. The energy crises at the beginning of the year grounded me & after that trouble with the power steering on my car cramped my style quite a lot. Just within the last 2 months things seemed back to normal & then came the hospital bit! So I’ve been hampered from doing a lot of things I wanted to do. One was to get a gift for Guy & Chris. It seemed every time I planned a shopping spree I was thwarted. I finally gave up & have now decided to send them a Christmas check so they can choose something they may need or want at this time. I have been thinking of you all a lot & hope Harold’s work has been going well. Everything seems in such a state of upset its hard to know what to expect next. I presume the grandchildren have returned to Hawaii by now and hope you have been able to realize your plan to move to Virginia in the near future. It sounds wonderful I must get a card off to Adelaide, too – hope she is well & happy. Undoubtedly you’ll see her at Christmas & do give her my love. Well, till later then, farewell & Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all – With love from Aunt Aurelia [bottom of page is a note to Guy James Clark and Christine Lynn (Seymour) Clark] Dear Chris & Guy: Have wanted to help you in your homemaking but things just wouldn’t let me! Cindy will tell you the details. So please forgive the delay and the method I am using. Hope it may give you pleasure in choosing something you really want. Love & best wishes, Aunt Aurelia References
