Obituary of Augustus L. Finley, Sr., Washington Post, June 3, 1983:

Augustus L. Finley, 104, a retired employe of the Veterans Administration, and a longtime area resident, died of a heart ailment May 30 at his home in Washington.

Mr. Finley was a native of Laurens, S.C., and a graduate of Benedict College. He came to Washington in 1925 and joined the Veterans Administration. He retired in 1949. He was a Mason. His wife, Bessie Pinson Finley, died in 1947.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth F. Morris, and a son, Augustus Jr., both of Washington; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Application for Social Security Account Number shows a birthdate of 1/1/1892. This is incorrect according to all other documents found. Correct birth year is 1879. This document confirms Rhoda(Rodie) as mother. Lists Chester as father as opposed to Chesley. Chesley's headstone also says Chester.
