[Sordelet Family .FTW] August and his wife, Catherine were married in Erie County, New York. They moved to Indiana around 1870 but never appeared in any census, New York or Indiana. The first his name appears in Allen County, IN, is 16 July 1870 when he purchased forty acres (the north east quarter of the north east quarter of Section Twenty-seven in Jefferson Township, from Francis A. Roy and his wife, Claude Frances Roy, for forty-two hundred dollars. Also included in this deal was an eighty acre tract of land, the west half of the north west quarter of Section Twenty-six in Jefferson Township. This transaction was recorded on August 10, 1870.

    August Sordelet died on 16 June 1875 in Jefferson Township.  Funeral services were held at St. Louis Catholic Church at Besancon.  He is buried in the parish cemetery at age 62.  In his will, he directed his wife, Catherine, to take care of his parents, Nicolas and Jeanne Claude Sordelet, who were still living.

The will of August Sordelet read, in part, as follows: "I will and ordain, however, that my said wife, Catherine, shall support and maintain in board and clothes my father and mother for and during the term of their natural lives.......and also that my said father and mother shall during the term of their lives use and occupy with my said wife where I now reside in the Township of Jefferson, Allen County, Indiana."
