Alleged to be a descendent of Hannah Webster Emerson Dustin, a woman who escaped from her indian captors during colonial times. She is famous in New ENG. Her published descendents as found in the Orlando Public Library do not establish a connection to the Reed family.

A handwritten "family information" letter (source unclear) and summary says "Hannah Dustin was Asa W. Reed's gandmother". Mary Grace Reed Waters states in a letter to a grand daughter that "Asa Reeds mother was a daughter of Hannah Dustin."

One Hannah Dustin of Haverhill, Mass, herself a descendent of Hannah Webster Emerson Dustin [ born Hannah Webster Emerson 23 Dec 1657 at Haverhill, Mass, died 1729] was the daughter of Jonathan Dustin (or Duston) and Elizabeth Watts of Haverhill, Essex, Mass. She was born 8 May 1717 at Haverhill, Essex, Mass. and died 18 Jul 1825.

She married on 29 Feb 1734/1735 to Joshua Page, son of Jeremiah Page and Deborah Hendrick, of Haverhill. He was born 28 Feb 1702 at Haverhill and died 24 Oct 1756 at Haverhill.

Their children were as follows : Elizabeth Page ( born 18 Jan 1735 at Haverhill, died 18 Jul 1825); Peter Page (born 11 Oct 1738 at Haverhill); Mehetable Page (born 19 Nov 1740 at Haverhill, died 17 Feb 1825); Hannah Page (born 20 Feb 1742 at Haverhill, died 24 Jan 1827), Joshua Page (born 4 May 1745 at Haverhill, died 28 May 1806 at Haverhill); Jonathan Page born 12 Aug 1748 at Haverhill); David Page (born 27 Feb 1750 at Haverhill); Daniel Page ( born 16 Aug 1754 at Haverhill); and Ruth Page (born 25 Jun 1756 at Haverhill).

As Asa Reed was born well within this Hannah Dustin's lifetime (she lived until 1825) it is quite possible that she could have been his grandmother, and relatively unlikely that he would have made such a claim (if he did) unless it was true. It is supportive of such a claim that he named a son, born in 1824, Dustin Reed. Asa Reed would then be a descendent of the famous Hannah Dustin, but NOT her grandson.

Reed, Asa W Town of Seneca, New York m. Lucy Loomis published 3/11/1818, Geneva Gazette. See Http://members.tripod.com/~chickened/fingerlakes.html. Not sure if this is the same Asa Reed but it probably is, making Mahala Carlisle his second wife. The 1850 Ohio census shows his wife as Susan making her his third wife. A broken link at familytreemaker.com for a mininet page gives just a hint of information as follows. Marriage 12 Dec 1818 Spouse Reed, Asa jr birth 1/16/1798 , 1831 father Asa Reed Mother Lanning, Sarah. Link does not name spouse. More research needed. Capt Daniel Carlisle served under a Col. Reed at Bunker Hill but I don't know if there is a connection. A Col Seth Reed settled in Ontario Co, New York in 1788. Other early settlers of Ontario Co, New York include Israel Reed and Jonathan Reed about 1790.
