ARTHUR VOSS

Arthur Alvin Voss, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville. He was born May 30, 1909, son of Bernard and Sophia (Satran) Voss in Monona, Iowa. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and country school. He married Ellen Holly at St. Patrick's Church in Monona on Jan. 20, 1931. He farmed near Watson until he retired in 1974, although he continued to live on the farm until he became ill in January of 2001. Prior to this, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with family. Surviving are his wife Ellen; daughter Edna Schmelzer; grandchildren, David (Denise) Schmelzer, Linda (Don) Gullickson, Darrell (Deb) Schmelzer and Allen Schmelzer; eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Bernard (Ben); two sisters, Clara Sudol and Rose Ulish; son-in-law Lorin Schmelzer; granddaughter Lisa Schmelzer and great-grandson Adam Gullickson. Services were Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa, Father John Moran officiating with interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery. The Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona assisted the family.

Arthur Alvin Voss, 92, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in the Good Samaritan Home, Postville, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona, by Father John Moran. Burial: St. Patrick's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schultz's Funeral Home, where a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. and where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; and a daughter, Edna Schmelzer.
