Arthur Grant was baptised on 2nd December 1860 at Sidlesham in Sussex, son of Sarah Grant, formerly Upfield, and her husband Alfred Grant, a fisherman. He appears in both the 1861 and 1871 censuses living with his parents and siblings in Sidlesham. In 1881 he was lodging just around the corner from his parents and working as a fisherman. By 1891, however, he had moved back in with his parents, who were living at Island Cottage in the Mill area of Sidlesham. They were still there in 1901. Arthur's father died in 1904. The 1911 census finds Arthur living with his widowed mother at Island Cottage. He has yet to be researched after 1911.
