'His father, Arthur Carmichael, born in South Carolina in 1774, was the son of Patrick and Elizabeth (Thompson) Carmichael. In 1831 Mr. Carmichael brought his family from South Carolina to Coweta county, Ga.'

It appears that Arthur went to Georgia with his son's family, since he became a charter member of a church there (see notes).
