Newberry is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina.
History

The origin of the county's name is unknown. Many German immigrants settled in the Dutch Fork Area during the eighteenth century. Other settlers included English/Welsh and Scots-Irish. Learn more about the history of Newberry County from the [South Carolina State Library or from Carolana.com.
- 1785 - Thirty-three counties were created within existing South Carolina Districts. Newberry County was created within Ninety-Six District.
1800 - Newberry was re-christened a district and Ninety-Six District was abolished.
1868 - Newberry and all other districts became counties.
