Facts and Events
Archibald McLean was born on the Hebridean island of North Uist, but spent many years in Glasgow where his five sons were born prior to the emigration to Ontario Canada in 1887. In Canada he lived near other McLeans, relations who had come to Canada from North Uist about forty years earlier, in Lambton County. In Canada he worked as a market gardener. He was active in politics there, and was chairman of the local Liberal association. In 1904 he died suddenly while "at Mr. Dryden's blacksmith shop having a friendly game of checkers apparently in the best of health, when he struck his breast saying that it pained him and expired in a very few minutes". At the time of his death, sons Lochlan and Archie were at home, Donald and John were in Fort William, and Hugh was attending university in Toronto. Image Gallery
