Antonio worked abroad a ship as a "primer maquinista". He met Justina in Hongkong, married her and brought her to the Philippines were he was born. He was not full blooded spanish since his mother Hipolita was a mestiza herself. But the Spanish government claimed he was spanish, therefore a peninsular, and must fight the Filipinos rebels. He did not want to shoot at a Filipino because he was one. The government nabbed him for deportation to Spain but Justina did not want to back to Spain for she thought everyone was like her mother in law Hipolita who disliked her for being part oriental. So Antonio opted to be deported to Ponape where they stayed for 5 years. He worked in the government of the Caroline Islands . After the Spanish-American was they returned to the Philippines.
