Hi Sonia,

I found some stuff here on Dads millitary record. His REGTL No.(regimental number) is L106313

His first name Anton is his only name, ie. no middle names. He enlisted in Regina 18 june 1943 and his officer was J Davies captain He finnished his weapon training on dec. 11, 1943 under Colonel D.S. Forbes..stamped 3 feb 1944

he had a 48 hr priv. leave on 8 mar 1945. i think it says he went on a 9 day leave - Paris- 26 may 1945

There is no information on where or what countries he went to. One of his badges indicates he was in France and Germany

who is interested in recieving this information as i recieve it From: Lavina McKinnon (view profile) To: Tony Thiele Sent: January 11, 2010 03:00:05 PM Subject: Hi, from Lavina! Hi, talked with my Mom, and yes, your Dad and my Dad were very close friends. They worked together at HBMS and they also diamond drilled together for McIaasic (Midwest Diamond Drilling) and they were army buddies as well, as yur Dad was a few years older than mine and ws already in England when my Dad shipped over there in eeqrly 1944. Mom said that we had all visited at your place in FF when we were all young kids and knew your Mom as well, and remembers when your Mom had the twins. Were you one of them? Then your Dad came to Snow Lake to work when we were there, and he stayed in the dorms there, but spent a lot of time at our place. When my Mom was quite sick there, your Dad left his car at our house for us, as his car was newer than my Dad's, and Dad had to take Mom to FF a lot to the doctor and the hospital, so that way Dad had a more reliable vehicle to drive!!!! Apparently your Dad had remarried and my Mom and Dad had visited them when my folks went to FF for holidays, went fishing, etc. Small world, hey? Mom said your Mom was a war bride and thought she was from Belgium???? She has lots of pictures of our Dads when in the army together, but my brother packed Dad's army stuff away after he died. Randy is in New Zealand again (gone every year for last 20 years) for the winters. So when he get home again, probably April, she will have him get the photos and stuff out and go through them. How about you, do you have any of your dad's pics, etc. and is he still alive??? My mom was asking me about him, so I said I'd ask you. TTYL Lavina

somehow i recall mom saying something about dad hopped out of a business deal but still wanted to be part of it....i think he was a diamond driller under ground but went to macissac because his work would be above ground ....
