A prominent man in the districts from Port Royal to Pigiguit was ALEXANDRE BOURG (Bourque). In 1720 he was chief notary there. In 1730 he was appointed procureur du roi for Grand Pré and Pigiguit, and authorized to receive all payments and quit-rents due to the Government. He held the same position in 1740; and he was still at Mines, "an aged man," in 1745. ANTOINE BOURG, aged sixty-two, in the census of 1671, appears as the head of a family, the oldest aged twenty-seven years. His wife was a Landry.

    1. 1: [No birthplace is claimed for him.] He died between 6 Oct 1687 and the census of 1693. A note explains that (based on dispensation) he does not seem to be the brother of Perrine BOURG married to Simon PELLETRET & René LANDRY.

(Port Royal). Born in 1609, probably originally from Martaizé in the Loudun region, department of Vienne in France. Arrived in Acadie around 1636, married around the same year. [However, if Antoinette had 12th and last child in 1667 or 1668, she was more likely born around 1624, married year before first child born in 1644.] He was doubtlessly [sic] the brother-in-law of René LANDRY [married to Perrine BOURG].

It is believed that Antoine Bourg, the founder of the family in Acadia, came originally from the parish of Martaize, near Loudun, France, and arrived at Port-Royal around 1640.

He married Antoinette Landry around 1643. Their grandson,Alexandre, settled at Grand-Pré, where he was appointed a royal notary and official surveyor of lands.

At the time of the Deportation, several Bourg families were able to escape and some of them settled at Menoudie and Memramcook in New Brunswick.

Among the Bourg families who were victims of the Deportation there was Joseph Bourg and his wife Madeleine Hache, the parents ofFranç-Anne Bourg who is believed to be the first child to be baptized on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
