Will of Anthony Crockett

In the name of God Amen. I Anthony Crockett of the County of Franklin and State of Kentucky, do make and ordain & establish this writing as and for my last will & testament viz:
Item 1st I will bequeath & devise unto W. R Crockett, Samuel B Crockett, Overton W Crockett, Granville S Crockett, Mary Hawkins, Sarah Hawkins, Martha Dillon & Catherine Buckner my surviving children and the children and heirs of my deceased son Fountain P Crockett and my deceased daughter Elizabeth McKee all the slaves, which I may own at my decease, to be equally divided between them viz: the heirs of my said decd. son and daughter taking the slaves which their parents would be entitled to if they were living.
Item 2nd. I give devise & bequeath unto my son Dandridge S Crockett all my land which I posses in Franklin Co., Ky.
Item 3rd. I give devise and bequeath to my heirs named in the first item of this will all my stock of every description, farm utensils, household and kitchen furniture to be equally divided between them in the manner pointed out in the 1st item for the division of the slaves therein devised.
Item 4th. I do hereby constitute and appoint John McKee & Dandridge S Crocket executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 28th day of April AD 1837.

A writing purporting to be the last will & testament of Anthony Crockett dec'd. was produced in court and proven by the oath of William S Vaughan a subscribing witness thereto and was further proven by the oath of said Vaughan that the signature of James Vaughan is in the handwriting of James Vaughan, whereupon the said will is ordered to be recorded which is done accordingly.

Crockett, Anthony - entered service 1776 in Botetourt County, Virginia; born in Prince Edward County, Virginia; granted Pension age 76 in Franklin County, Kentucky in 1832; died 12/6/1838 leaving no widow; names of Dandridge S. Crockett and William R. Crockett mentioned; query letter in file in 1914 from descendant Lamar Washington, Summit, New Jersey, sho was also a descendant of Revolutionary War soldier Warner Washington; query letter in file states soldier died 1833-40 in Franklin County, Kentucky & was born 1756 in Prince Edward County, Virginia; query letter in file states soldier married Sarah Blankenship. R694.
- Note: a different Crockett married Sarah Blankenship on 11 September 1800 in Montgomery County, Virginia.

I Anthony Crockett1 at this time aged sixty-seven years do hereby state on oath that I was well acquainted with Samuel Woods (whose affidavit & schedule is herewith annexed) during the Revolutionary war and he was a Lieutenant in the Regiment commanded by Colonel James Wood in the Continental line from Virginia and he continued in service at Fort Pitt & at the mouth of the Kanaway [Kanawha River] in the year 1776 and also was marched to the South and continued in service for more than nine months, said CaptainWoods is now very old and I am informed in a very helpless situation. Witness my hand this 15th day of December 1823.

    Anthony Crockett (1756-1838) enlisted, 1776, for two years under Capt. Thomas Posey, Col. Alexander McClennahan. He was at Bound Brook and the surrender of Burgoyne. He was commissioned lieutenant, 1778, of the Illinois regiment raised by Virginia and served under Col. George Clark at the battle of Blue Licks, and was placed on the pension roll for two years' actual service as lieutenant in the Virginia Line. He was born in Prince Edward County, Va. ; died in Franklin County, Ky.
