Summary: Anne Sheppard was married three times.
1. Thomas Hart, son of Henry and Elizabeth Hart, who patented, 3 July 1648, 100 acres at Smith's Fort in the area which later became Surry County. He was deceased by 10 June 1669 when the list of Surry County tithables gives only "the widow Hart."
2. William Newsom, who deposed, 7 May 1672, he was aged 24 and who, in presenting the account of the estate of Thomas Hart, 4 Nov. 1674, mentioned "my wife's third part" with the rest "due the three orphans of Thomas Hart, deceased, vizt: Henry, Thomas, and Robert Hart." Newsom's will, 10 June, 1691-5 Sept. 1691, named his wife Anne, four sons and two daughters.
3. George Foster, who deposed, 4 Sept. 1694, that he was aged 55, and on 2 Jan. 1693/4 rendered an account of William Newsom's estate, which on 4 March following was shown indebted to "George Foster and Anne his wife, one of the executors of the said deceased." Foster left a will, 16 Dec. 1697-4 Jan. 1696/8.
