Nationality of Anne Cocil (Mrs. Caspar DeVilbiss). Confusing information is available on Ancestry.com. Some possibilities: there seems to be a reference to her being willed or owning a Dutch Bible. Does this mean Dutch as in Holland or Deutsch as in Germany? One family tree indicates Anne Cocil was the stepdaughter of a Mr. Cox. Another family tree says Mr. Cox was Anne’s second husband after the death of Caspar DeVilbiss. Cocil is a family name that does not appear very often on Ancestry.com. Some possibilities are that it may be spelled Causel, Coselle, Cocel, or Coosel. These names are associated with Isle of Man, England, Bavaria, and Prussia, so these may be helpful leads or false leads. I checked the 3 volume “Oxford Dictionary of American Family Names”. None of the names Cocil, Causel, Coselle, Cocel or Coosel appear at all. P. S. Sports legend Howard Cosell was a Jewish Polish American. Answer to Anne/Anna Cocil’s nationality: unknown at present.
