Facts and Events
The Troutmans of North Carolina are all part of one large family, descended from Johan Adam Trautmann who was born in 1690 in Gross Gumpen, Hesse, Germany. Two of his sons, Peter (1716-1799) and Melchior (1727-1778), came to America in 1751, settling first in Pennsylvania. The family moved south to the Gold Hill area of Rowan County, North Carolina shortly before the Revolutionary War. By 1850, there were Troutmans of this clan in the North Carolina counties of Rowan, Cabarrus, Stanly, Iredell, Catawba, Lincoln, and Yancey; as well as Newberry District, South Carolina; Jefferson County, Tennesse, Montgomery County, Illinois, Crawford County, Missouri, and Butler County, Ohio. |
