According to the Shankland Family Research by Albert Shankland, Oscar married first Anna James (1843 PA - 1866) and had one child. This could be the Ella/Ellen living with his parents in 1870, and his mother and sister in 1880. 

 According to an IGI record, Anna was born in Pennsylvania, however, her daughter shows her birthplace as Indiana.
 There is an Anna James listed in the 1860 census for Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana, with Mary James 38; Anna 18; Huldah 15; Hattie 13; and Libby 11 -- all born Indiana.
