Notes from Patrick Morgan Harrison (hamlet@@flash.net): Notes for ANNA ELIZA EDMISTON: Anna supposedly came to Madison Co., Mississippi, before 1857 with her Grandmother Margaret Montgomery Harreld Davis and cousin Virginia Graham to visit Margaret's brother Dr. Harreld. Margaret returned to Missouri but Anna and Virginia remained, married and raised families. One of the stories that has come down in the family is that Anna Edmiston was a childhood friend of Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens, 1835-1910) in Hannibal, Missouri; It is reported that Anna corresponded with Mark Twain when she was living in Mississippi and that she saved the letters she received. Unfortunately, the home in Camden, Mississippi, in which she was living, burned to the ground and all of her effects went up in smoke. There is no evidence left to prove or disprove this family tale.
