Near by was the grave of Ann Millard (Sudduth) Grimes, only daughter of James and Mary (Goff) Sudduth who probably contracted cholera when she and her mother-in-law so kindly gave food to some returning soldiers, themselves evidently ill with disease. Coffin was brought by wagon. Wheels were carefully wrapped in order to prevent the good citizens of Paris from learning of the procession. Previous to this, Ann's son, like Lewis [Ann's brother], a mere lad, had been killed by a horse. He had been buried at his grandfather's. There was the usual unsolved mystery. We wondered what became of Ann's husband, Solomon Grimes. Later found his will at Paris and heard of several Grimes family graveyard. One Grimes family lived near the Allison Burlows.
