Anita Eleanor Noye Wessels

Anita Eleanor Noye Wessels, 83, Gilman, died at 10:33 pm Monday, November 3, 2008, at her home. She was born November 19, 1924, in Gilman, the daughter of Harry Robert and Hattie M. Mathis Noye. Her childhood was spent in Gilman and she graduated from Gilman High School in 1942. She received her teaching certificate from Illinois State at Normal. For a period of time she taught school in Crescent City. She married Harold G. Wessels. He died July 24, 1993. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Pasadena, California. She lived in Arcadia, California from 1952-1996. While there she and her husband owned and operated Business Appliance Corporation. She served as bookkeeper. In 1996 she moved back to Gilman to live in the family home which had been built by her father. She attended the Gilman United Methodist Church, Mary Martha Circle and St. John Lutheran Quilting Circle. Surviving are children: William H. Wessels of Caldwell, Idaho, Mia R. (David H. Smith, M.D.) Wessels, M.D., of Abingdon, Virginia, and Gay Lenne (James) Hamblin of Canyon Lake, California; six grandchildren: Brian and Brittany Hamblin, Christopher, Michael and Julia Smith, and Evan Carroll; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Mathilda, Youlia Poppie, Helen Clark and Harriett Goldenstein, and two brothers: H. R. Noye and Roy Noye. Visitation will be from Noon-2 pm Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday at the church with the Rev. Pete Hinrich officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Crescent City. Memorials may be made to the Gilman-Danforth District Library or St. Peter Lutheran Church.
