Duluth, St. Louis, Minnesota, United States21 November '00 Dear Mr. Marshall, I did check what records I could find from Bp. McGolrick's papers but I did not find any documents relating to Andrew Marshall. Bp. McGolrick was the Diocese's first bp and he arrived in Duluth early in 1890. He had to set up a functioning Chancery which took some time. Petitions for dispensation came from priests and the bp may have even written "Ego dispenso" on the same petition and returned it to the pastor. Few records from that era have survived. Do you know where Andrew married? In what Church? There were several Polish churches in the area when Duluth was erected as a a Diocese late in 1889. The dispensaton was for the impediment of affinity, a relationship between two individuals based on a marriage. If you can find the city & possibly church where they were married, a check of the marriage register may provide some useful information. Fr. Dale "Nan"? - - -; Catholic Church Dispensation |
