The 1860 census presents a bit of a puzzlement: John's wife is listed as Matilda and Matilda is the same age as John. It appears that who ever gave the info did not know enough about Amelia. John's age and the children's names and ages are in agreement with both the 1850 and the 1870 census so this appears to be the right family even though Amelia's info is not in agreement. If anyone knows of the answer to this dilema, please contact me so I can note it in the records. Since there is an age gap between Sarah and Joseph, I first thought that Matilda might be a second wife. But the 1870 census lays that theory to rest as it shows Amelia with the family. OTOH, the age of John's wife is not consistant in any of the 4 census records, 1850 thru 1880. It is conceivable that John has had three wives, the first and third being named Amelia. Another item to note is that by 1870 Amelia has named a daughter Sarah; so either the first daughter Sarah has died or perhaps she has married and moved and this is a new wife who wanted to name a daughter Sarah. Two Sarah Jacksons born to one wife is a bit unusual.
