In later life Amelia became a Roman Catholic. Both she and John are buried in R.C. Cemetery, Camden. 17 December 1842 Amelia married John Wellings at St Thomas C of E Narrellan. On John’s death certificate his occupation is given as “grazier”. At one time he worked for the Macarthur family and because of being gored by a bull while there walked with a limp. Amelia was “well known, respected and loved midwife for many years’. One story handed through her grand daughter is of a Chinaman who was driving his sulky and the horse bolted throwing the driver out and breaking his hip. The local hospital refused care because he was a Chinaman so he was taken to Amelia and she cared for him. Consequently every Christmas he sent Amelia a 50 lb chest of tea and a 5-gallon jar of preserved ginger. When the Chinaman was too old to work he back to China and the Christmas gifts continued until he died.

See history of Camden Post Office, Amelia was Postmistress.
