... On October 20 1853, he was married to Amelia Hall, daughter of Daniel and Amelia (Yelton) Hall, the former a native of Virginia, who removed to Kentucky when about nine years of age, and came to Rush County, about 1825, where he died July 31, 1879. The latter was a native of Bourbon County, Ky., and died this county January 8, 1871. Mr. and Mrs. Maze were blessed with eight children, off whom three are living at present; they are: Sarah A., Alice A., Alma A. The wife and mother was called away November 26, 1885. She was a member of the Christian Church for over thirty years. In 1865 he purchased the farm he now owns. It consists of 125 acres, of which seventy acres are under a high state of cultivation. Besides giving his attention to farming he has dealt considerably in fine stock. He owns at present two horses, one, Prince VonBismarck, a fine Clydesdale five years old, sired by Prince Von Bismarck, an imported horse from Scotland. The other Black Frank, a Percheran Norman, sired by old Black Cicero a Norman horse imported. In addition to these he owns several other valuable horses and thoroughbred cattle and hogs. He is one of the progressive farmers and stock-raisers in the county, and has expended considerable money in advancing breeding interests. He is a genial-social man, a member of the Christian Church and of the Masonic order.

Maze, William, Star P. O. was born in this county October 7, 1831; is a son of Thomas Maze, born November 3, 1808, and Margaret Maze, born December 21, 1811. Was married in this county October 20, 1853 to Amelia Hall; children --Margaret Isabelle, born June 24, 1855, died January 26, 1874; Sarah Arbell (Mrs. Eskew), May 14, 1857; Joseph Marion, August 26, 1858, died October, 1859; Alice Ann (Mrs. Kemmer), March 1, 1860; William M., April 23, 1861, died May 30, 1861; Amelia Alma, December 5, 1863. The father and mother of our subject settled in this county at an early day; the former died at his home in Union Township February 5, 1864; the latter in her 68th year, is living on the old homestead; Mrs. Maze's father, Daniel Hall, a native of Virginia, is living near them, now in his 84th year; her mother, Milley Yelton, a native of Bourbon County, Ky., born March 2, 1791, died January 8,1871. Mr. Maze owns 124 acres of good land, 70 under cultivation; is an admirer of fine stock, owning at this time a fine stallion of Blue Bull and Tom Hal stock, a thorough-bred jack, and some of the finest Cotswold, Canadian and Lincolnshire sheep to be found in the county. At the age of 16, Mr. Maze moved to Marion County; in 1850 learned the blacksmith trade with Horton Clinton, where he remained eleven months; worked for Michael Hittle, in this county eight months; worked for H. Sears, of Raleigh, about three months, taking tools in pay which are still in use, after which he was with Albert Miner at Falmouth. Commencing business at Ging's Corners two months before his marriage, he continued at that place two years, then joined in partnership with Michael Hittle, which lasted two years; then rented a farm from John T. Hinchman, which he worked in the summer and continued his trade in the winter, where he remained five years; then rented of Mrs. Bayless -- now a portion of his own farm -- where he raised one crop; then rented of Adam Ammons, after which he purchased and settled on his present farm, where he has since lived, following farming and black-smithing. Mr. Maze is a member Snow Lodge 305, F. & A. M. A sound Democrat. Mr. and Mrs. Maze have been members of the Christian Church twenty-five years, and attend the Plum Creek Christian Church.
