Ambrose, Sr. served as a Lt. Co. B 21 Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. I have him as Ambrose Y. Hart, Sr. but the Letter of Admin. for the death of Joseph B. Hart says the petitioner is Ambrose Y. Hart, Jr. Now I am really confused. I think this info is wrong and I'm waiting for a researcher I've hired to send new info.

This Ambrose Y. Hart served as a Corporal in Co. D of the 123rd Ill Vol. Inf. according to his Civil War pension file. An affidavit in the file states that "Mr. Ambrose Y. Hart, Jr. was married to Miss Esther Thompson on the 4th day of March 1880". I have always been confused as to which Ambrose Y. Hart was the "Jr." and it seems this is the one.

Info from Debbie Krych's tree: The following appeared in the History of Coles County, Illinois:

Ambrose Y. Hart, Jr., farmer; P. O. Paradise; is the son of Miles H. and Catherine C. Hart; was born in Effingham Co., Ill., Nov. 15, 1834; moved to Coles Co. Feb. 12, 1836; is the owner of fifty acres of land, valued at $2,000. Is Justice of the Peace, and has been for twelve years; also Town Clerk, School Treasurer and Commissioner of Highways. Was married to Nancy Sexson of Coles Co. Jan. 22, 1857; the result of this marriage is -- David S., John M.; deceased, Miles O., Willie A., Catharine C. and Ada. Mr. Hart was in the late war, serving as Corporal of Co. D, 123rd Ill. Reg. His father, Miles H. Hart, died in Coles Co. Feb. 17, 1855, in the 59th year of his age; his mother, Catherine C. Hart, died in Coles Co. Nov. 12, 1872, in the 68th year of her age; they were one of the three first families who settled in this township. ((Thomas Hart's biography (Ambrose's brother) states that his mother and father came to Coles County, March 12, 1826 rather than February 12, 1836. It is not known which date is correct.))

Ambrose Hart and Nancy are listed on the 1860 Etna Post Office, Paradise, Coles County, IL Federal Census:
