Facts and Events
He was baptised by Rev. Johannes F. Noll. His sponsors were George and Anna Townsend. Ambrose was 4 years old when he died of diphtheria. Ambrose's obituary reads, "HAD DIPHTHERIA BUT FAMILY DIDN'T KNOW IT - Maurice Gerardot Lost Son Soon After Discovering the Illness - A report to Dr. E. M. Buskirk, secretary of the county board of health, received this morning, states that on last Thursday, the four-year-old son of Maurice Gerardot, a farmer living one mile and a half east of Maples, died at the family home from diphtheria. On the afternoon of that day Mr. Gerardot took his son to Dr. S.D. Mentzer, of Monroeville, as the boy had been feeling bad for several days, suffering supposedly from a cold. Arriving at the doctor's office, Mr. Gerardot was told that his son was suffering from diphtheria, that he was beyond any relief and would probably die within twelve hours. Mr. Gerardot hurried his son home where everything possible was done for him, but the lad died that evening. The Gerardot home and premises were thoroughly disinfected and the body buried immediately, and any spread of the disease has been checked." [Fort Wayne Sentinel, 24 August 1910] References
