May have been Indian (oral history Sadie Johnson) She (Bernice Garlington) remembered walking with her grandmother in the fields, asking Amanda to tell her stories about slavery times. Amanda told her that she ws given to one of the Finley wives as a wedding present. She was taken from her family in Selma, Alabama and came by paddleboat toCharleston, South Carolina.Then wagon train to Laurens. Her job was to take care of the babies. She slept ona pallet in the ahll and got up to take care of the babies when they woke up at night.
