Facts and Events
[edit] Proof of ParentsW. T. [Wiley Terry Stewart] married L. A. Pinkard on 01 Jan 1893 in Comanche, Texas. Alma Pinkard was the daughter of Daniel and Caroline Pinkard. She is enumerated in the 1880 census in their household in Comanche, Texas. Alma Pinkard is age 5. Alma Pinkard Stewart, born 14 Jun 1874, died 18 Nov 1893, is buried in the Indian Creek Cemetery. Since Alvis Stewart was born 17 Nov 1893; it is likely that Alma died from complications from childbirth. No other Pinkard females married Stewarts during this time period. It appears that the other daughters of Daniel Pinkard enumerated in the 1880 census were Clara Pinkard who married J. W. Franklin and Mary or Marietta Pinkard who married W. B. Starling. On 02 Oct 1898 Terry Stuart [Wiley Terry Stewart] married Maggie Pinkard in Comanche, Texas. She is believed to be the sister of Alma Pinkard. Wiley Stewart and Maggie M. Stewart are enumerated in the 1900 census in Justice Precinct 8 in Comanche County, Texas. They have one son enumerated as Osie K. Stewart [Kyle Osie Stewart]. They have been married for 1 year. This census enumerator did not indicate the number of marriages on the enumeration page for Wiley Stewart. It is probable that grandson Alvis L. Steward living in the household of Daniel Pinkard in 1900 is the son of Wiley Terry Stewart and Alma Pinkard. In the 1910 census in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas, Alvis Stewart, age 16, is again enumerated in the household of his grandfather Dan P. Pinkard. However, this time the census indicates that he is the son of Dan P. Pinkard. This is clearly an error. Wiley Terry Stewart's children by his second wife, Maggie Pinkard, are also in the household of Dan P. Pinkard. Kyle Stewart, age 9, the son of Wiley Stewart and Maggie enumerated in their household in 1900 is in the household of Dan Pinkard in 1910 and also listed as a son. Maggie Stewart, second wife of Wiley Terry Stewart, is buried in the Indian Creek Cemetery. She was born 25 Feb 1882 and died 16 Jan 1906. Wiley Terry Stewart, widowed, is living with his brother Charles Lee Stewart in 1910. In 1917 Alvis Stewart is living in Perico, Dallam County, Texas and has married. He is employed by H. M. Smith. In the 1920 census Alvis L. Stewart and his wife Reta are living with his father's brother, William Jackson Stewart in Comanche County, Texas. A. L. Stewart is enumerated as the nephew of W. J. Stewart. This is additional supporting evidence to the premise that Alvis L. Stewart is the son of Wiley Terry Stewart and Alma Pinkard and grandson of Daniel P. Pinkard. Alvis' father, Wiley Terry Stewart has remarried by the time of the 1920 census and has moved to Oklahoma. One of his sons by Maggie Pinkard named Garvin Stewart is living in the household of Wiley Terry Stewart in Oklahoma. To date I have not found Alvis Stewart in the 1930 census. However, his death is listed in the SSDI and he is buried in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, Payne County, Oklahoma. A Rita Stewart is buried in the same lot; it is probable that she is his wife Reta who was enumerated with him in the 1920 census. Per the cemetery data for Rita Stewart on www.findagrave.com, she was born on 11 Aug 1895 and died 15 Sep 1950. She was buried on 18 Sep 1950; plot: Blk-3A Lot 14. References
