NICHOLSON Daily American, February 27, 1984 

 Alva J. Nicholson, 68, of Maple Mountain Manor, died Feb. 26, 1984, at Meyersdale Community Hospital.  Born May 3, 1915, at Elk Lick Township, son of the late Richard and Fanny (Lepley) Nicholson.  Besides his parents, also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph; and sisters: Matilda Miller and Mrs. Fannie Grew.  Survived by one son, Alva J. Nicholson Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; three daughters: Mrs. Julia Bodes, Greencastle, Pa.; Mrs. Esther Duppstadt and Mrs. Joyce Snelson, both of Meyersdale; also four sisters: Mrs. Nancy Uphold, Mrs. Esther Hetrick, Mrs. Viola Swearman and Mrs. Lillian Johnson, all of Meyersdale; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Member of St. Paul (Wilhelm) United Church of Christ.  Friends will be received Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, Salisbury, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carl P. Mitchell Jr. officiating.  Interment, St. Paul Cemetery.
