see also notes under Mary (Randall) Higgins Almeron Bristol was probably born in Vergennes Vermont, not too far from Williston. He was quite a prosperous cabinet maker, and he also made rakes, which means that he had access to some kind of forge (David was a blacksmith, remember) and during the civil war he made a good deal of money making armaments. I have been in his house, which is now a bed and breakfast, and seen the parlor from which Sarah Higgins married my great-great grandfather, Edward Pierce, in 1854. I have wondered whether the Bristols and the Higgins came out to Michigan from Vermont together.
