Allen with 6 other families immigrated from Alabama in the fall of 1842 to Shreveport, LA. They came by boat, in Shreveport they left the boat, bought teams, tools and a few milk cows and made their way to Robertson County, Texas. They settled on a creek called Duck Creek at the edge of what was called Bald Prairie. In 1861 when the Civil War broke out Allen and 3 of his sons went to war. 2 of the oldest boys did not come home and are buried in Richmond, Virginia. Allen was a minister of the Camelite Church, later known as the Christian Church. From there 3 families crossed the Sabine River into Texas and settled on Duck Creek at the edge of Bald Prairie in Robertson County. Allen was a minister of the "Camelite" church. He built a log cabin in Pine Island, LA. which was used as a church. |
