It is his death certificate that lists Ruth Bowen as mother, and Reecewas a Bowen family name. But Joseph's brother-in-law was also Reece.Allen Reece married Delphia E. Mayhew on May 9, 1862. On September 10, 1917, A. T. Bowen wrote the Bowen Family Record, KnoxCo., TN. The entire Bowen family in the United States orginated fromJohn Bowen, a Quaker, who married a Scot-Irish girl named LillyMcIlhaney. John's father was Moses Bowen, who married Rebecca Reese.They too were both Quakers and immigrated from Wales to Chester Co., PAin 1698. The name Reecse came from Rebecca, and is used prominently inthe Bowen family. Apparently, all the Bowens remained in Pennsylvanaexcept John Bowen who moved to Augusta Co., VA, ca 1730. The entireBowen record can be found on four microfilms entitled "Cemetery, Church,Family Bible Records of Tennessee." |
