Alice Worbey was baptised on 26th February 1834 at Hitchin in Hertfordshire, daughter of Ann Worbey, formerly Stokes, and her husband John Worbey, an agricultural labourer. At the time of Alice's baptism the family was living at Walsworth, a hamlet to the east of the town. By the time of the 1841 census the family had moved to The Riddy, a group of cottages surrounded by fields which stood a little way to the south-east of Hitchin.

By 1851, Alice had left home and working as a domestic servant for a farmer in the nearby village of Great Wymondley.

On 1st July 1854, aged 20, she was married at Great Wymondley to Samuel Dearmer, an agricultural labourer. They went on to have ten children together between 1855 and 1875. The first two children were baptised at Great Wymondley, with the family's abode in 1857 being given as Titmore Green, a hamlet about a mile south of the village. Back in Hitchin, Alice's mother died in 1856.

Alice and Samuel moved to the neighbouring parish of St Ippolyts some time between 1857 and 1859, with their abode there in 1859 being given as Almshoe Wood House. From at least 1861 to 1865 the family lived at Harkins Hall in St Ippolyts, appearing there in the 1861 census, when Alice was working as a straw plaiter.

Some time between 1865 and 1867 the family moved into the town of Hitchin, living at Bunyan Road, just north of the town centre. Alice's father died in 1865. Alice and Samuel stayed at Bunyan Road between at least 1867 and 1875, then moved some time between 1875 and 1881 to Nightingale Road, a short distance from Bunyan Road. Despite now living in the town, Samuel continued to work as an agricultural labourer.

Samuel died in 1889, aged 58. Alice survived him by about seventeen years. She appears in both the 1891 and 1901 census living at 49 Nightingale Road in Hitchin. In 1901 she was letting out rooms to lodgers, with three policemen boarding with her.

Alice died in 1906, aged 72.
