  2. Source:Anderson, Robert Charles. Great Migration: Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, Vol. VI (R-S), p. 316, in his article on Henry Short, says, "Samuel Holt was to pay legacies to 'Robert Long's children & to Nathan Parker Junior'. On some date in the 1640s (original record worn), Robert Long and Alice Short were married at Newbury, and on 20 November 1648, Nathan Parker and Susanna Short were married at the same town. These women were the right age to have been sisters of Henry Short." [Note this bequest only takes effect if both of Henry Short's own children die. Parallels with Nathan Parker Jr. suggest the children of Robert Long are nieces and nephews, though no relationship is indicated and Alice herself is not named or given a bequest.]
  3. Source:Hoyt, David W. Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Massachusetts, p. 232, says Newbury Church records given Alice's name as Alice Stevens. There are three possibilites: an error in recording or reporting (neither church records, nor "worn" marriage record appear to be online); Alice had previous m. a Mr. Stevens; or Robert Long had two wives. The last seems unlikely since Henry did not restrict the bequest to a subset of the children.]
