Alice Kohler Messer, 79, of 571 5th Street NW, Carrollton, died December 8 of injuries received in an auto accident on St. Rt. 43 south of Canton. Alice lived most of her life in Kilgore having moved to Carrollton from Lakeland, Florida, in 1995. She was born January 22, 1917, at Telico Plains, Tennessee, the daughter of the late David and Cora (Davis) Lyle. She was a member of the New Hope Worship Center at Plant City, Florida. She and her first husband, Allen had operated Kohler's Service Station until his death. She maintained ownership of the business until 1995.
She is survived by three sons, Allen "Popeye" Kohler of Carrollton, David E. Kohler of Mesa, Arizona, and William "Bill" Kohler of Kilgore; a brother, Gene Lyle of Amherst, Ohio; a sister, Helen Messer of Friendsville, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen H. Kohler, whom she married in 1935, and who died November 23, 1955; her second husband, Carl Messer, who died March 30, 1992; a son, James A. Kohler, who died July 15, 1966; five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home at Carrollton with Pastor Jim Creel officiating. Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery.
