Alice moved from Newell, IA when she was three to Coffeyville (in a covered wagon.) She met Ernest Rhoades when he visited his sister Bertha who lived across the street, down 2 blocks, from Livingston's in Coffeyville, KS. They took the Inter-urban to Independence, KS and were married by the Justice of the Peace. They lived at Advance, MO the first year of their marriage. COFFEYVILLE PAPER, 1930 MRS. ERNEST RHOADES IMPROVES Mrs. Ernest Rhoades, formerly a resident of the Spring Hill district, ten miles north of Coffeyville, and also formerly The Journal's Spring Hill correspondent, is slowly improving from a long illness at her home at Howard. On February 8 Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades buried a baby, who died soon after birth, and soon thereafter Mrs. Rhoades was taken with influenza and double pneumonia. She is still bedfast although showing some improvement. References
