  Alice moved from Newell, IA when she was three to Coffeyville (in a covered wagon.)  She met Ernest Rhoades when he visited his sister Bertha who lived across the street, down 2 blocks, from Livingston's in Coffeyville, KS.  They took the Inter-urban to Independence, KS and were married by the Justice of the Peace.  They lived at Advance, MO the first year of their marriage.

COFFEYVILLE PAPER, 1930 MRS. ERNEST RHOADES IMPROVES Mrs. Ernest Rhoades, formerly a resident of the Spring Hill district, ten miles north of Coffeyville, and also formerly The Journal's Spring Hill correspondent, is slowly improving from a long illness at her home at Howard. On February 8 Mr. and Mrs. Rhoades buried a baby, who died soon after birth, and soon thereafter Mrs. Rhoades was taken with influenza and double pneumonia. She is still bedfast although showing some improvement.

    Alice Mason
    Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home for Mrs. Alice Mason, 88, 1185 Woodward, who died Sunday at a Topeka hospital.
    She was born Dec. 6, 1890, at Newell, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis K. Livingston. She lived at Coffeyville, Howard, and Winfield before she moved to Topeka several years ago.
    She was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church.
    She married Daniel Ernest Rhoades on Feb. 8, 1908, at Independence. He died Sept. 21, 1936. She married Jack Mason on April 4, 1939, at Manhattan. He died Oct. 19, 1957. A son, Clark Rhoades, died in 1929.
    Survivors include a son, Ernest F. Rhoades, 1265 Mulvane; two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Ward, Wichita, and Clara Rhoades, 1185 Woodward; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services and burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery in Winfield.
