Alice Kottman

Funeral services for Alice Kottman were held Thursday, May 22, 1997, at 11:00 am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Monona with Rev. Terry Hudson officiating. Acolytes were Justin Clark and Travis Torkelson and organist Mrs. Connie Halvorson. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery.

Alice Adele Kottman was born May 10, 1907, in Giard Township, Clayton County, Iowa, to Frank E. and Martha (Schroeder) Lestina. She was baptized June 8, 1907, by Pastor Otto Wappler and confirmed September 4, 1921, by Pastor A. Daugs at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona.

Alice passed away May 19, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, after a short illness.

She was united in marriage to LeRoy Kottman on December 1, 1925, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Monona. To this union, two sons were born. The couple farmed for many years in the Monona area, where she was a devoted wife and loving mother.

Alice played piano in the "Lestina's Serenaders," a dance band with her brother and sister. She enjoyed violets, her flower gardens, crocheting, playing cards and Friday Bingo Days at the Good Samaritan Center for the past nine years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LeRoy, who died November 7, 1963, and one brother, Walter Lestina.

Survivors include her two sons, Harland Kottman and his wife, LaVon, and Gary Kottman and his wife, Sharon, all of Monona; one sister, Hazel Blumhagen of Postville; one sister-in-law, Florence Lucas of Prairie du Chien; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Kottman, John Kottman, Dave Wille, Chuck Wendel, Tom Macha and Clarence Lucas Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Schweikert, Bob Tayek, Dwayne Mauer, Harley Luster, Earl Jones, Lairen Moyer, Steve Welpert and Jim Tayek.
