BERNARD, Iowa - Alfred C. Donovan, 77, of 1120 Arizona SE, Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Bernard, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Laurel Heights Healthcare, Albuquerque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Garryowen, rural Bernard. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 3:15 p.m. He was born on Oct. 1, 1928, in Bernard, son of Maurice L. and Rachel B. (Shannon) Donovan. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Garryowen in 1947. He played baseball for the Bernard Indians and became an L.A. Dodgers fan. Al moved to Albuquerque in 1955. He was employed by the city of Albuquerque as a bus driver for the Senior Citizens Group and later with the water department until his retirement. He enjoyed his daily routine at the health club. Al would return to Dubuque to attend family weddings, reunions and visit the Donovan family farm. Surviving are a sister, Kathleen M. Kane, and a brother, Raymond (Doris) Donovan, both of Dubuque; many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Doris Donovan, of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, William Feeney, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and his good friends in Albuquerque, especially the Charlie Meloy family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Feeney; three brothers, Gerald, Leo and Wilfred "Bill" Donovan; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Donovan. An Alfred C. Donovan Memorial Fund has been established.
