!BIOGRAPHY: Sergeant Bitter moved with his family from Long Island to Pulaski where he attended Pulaski Central School.[Aunt Dorie tells me that when his family moved from Port Orange to Lacona, he instead went to a farm in Adams Center. He was a good basketball player in High School.] He enlisted in the Marines as soon as he could and was stationed in Europe, returning last summer [1952?] before being sent to the far east. {He visited his sister Doris Pettibone at her home in Hornell during that summer]. [He was declared MIA in Korea.] Oswego Palladium Jan 1953.

!MILITARY-SERVICE: Sergeant Bitter was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea on January 18, 1953. He was presumed dead on January 20, 1954.
