The Daily Times, Beaver, PA - Monday, 9 Oct 1911 Driving a piano box pulled by a frisky steed, Alex. VanKirk, Darlington, arrived in Beaver Falls Saturday Night, and began to hit the high places. When officer White saw him he was holding the reins tight and urging Dobbin to the beat of the band. Dobbin obeyed. When the officer interfered Alex resisted. Persuasion was necessary before he was landed in jail. Today Burgess Brown sent him to Beaver jail for a week and three days. A story told to me by Jeanette Tullis, who heard it from other relatives was that Alexander was an odd fellow. For fun, he used to chase his wife and children around the house with a loaded pistol. Apparently Granny Eliza was not fond of him as she didn't want to be buried next to "that man". Unfortunately for her, she was buried beside him. I think the family could not afford an additional gravesite.
