Jim and Walter,

My NC Stewarts as far as I can tell so far begin with Robert Stuart Born Nov.25,1710 in Chester, Delaware Co, PA.

He was the son of Alexander Stuart b.1680 in Edinburgh, Scotland d.Nov. 5,1714 and Mary Baily b.Nov. 10,1688 in Chester Co., PA d. 1741 in Bradford, PA. Mary Baily was the daughter of Joel Baily (1658-1732 and Ann Short (1666-1732) Alexander and Mary had the following children that I have been able to determine:

Anna b.1712 m. Henry Marsh Jane b.1709 m. Josiah Taylor Joel Baily b. 17-- Mary b.1714 Robert b. 1710-1783 m. Martha Richardson (my GGGGGrandfather)

Robert Stuart b.Nov.25,1710 in Chester, Delaware Co., PA. He died Sept.1783 in Wilkes Co., Ga. He was married to Martha Richardson in 1732 in Randolph Co. NC. Martha Richardson b. Mar. 23, 1717 d. Sept. 1793 (she died in Wilkes Co. Ga.). She was the daughter of Isaac Richardson (-1726) and Katherine Gandy (1681-1726). Robert and Martha had the following children: (Stuart name appears to change to Stewart with their children) Note: on records there appear to be birth places listed as PA and NC as Robert and Martha had moved from PA to NC.

Alexander 1736-1767 Amos 1759-1837 Catherine 1742- Elizabeth 17-- Gravenor (Gravener) 1756-1831 m. Jane Fields (1772-) Hannah 176- Isaac 1746- James 1759- Jehu 1740-1827 John 1734- Mary 1738- Rachel 1744- Robert 1749-1835 m. Nancy Holloway (my GGGGrandfather)

Robert Stewart was born in 1749 in New Bern, Craven Co., NC. He died on Dec. 8, 1835 in Pickens District ( also known as Old Pendleton District later becoming Pickens County), SC. He married Nancy Holloway in 1773 in Columbia Co, Ga. Nancy Holloway was born about 1753 in Columbia Co., Ga. She died Dec. 5, 1843 in Pickens District, SC. Robert Stewart and Nancy Holloway had the following children:

Abraham 178- Elizabeth 177- John 1774-d. about 1852 Mary 177- Nancy 178- Robert 1785-1857 m. Elizabeth Burroughs (my GGGFather) Sarah 1790 was living in 1850 unmarried in Pickens Co., SC William 1773-died before 1855

The above mentioned Robert Stewart born in Craven Co., NC is my connection to NC as far as I have determined. I have other info but haven't been able to confirm in regards to others in NC.

As to my Alabama connection: I have confirmed that my GGGGUncle Jehu's son aka Jehu (born 1770-1780?) was in Perry Co, Ala in the 1820's. He was married to Rosanna, but a marriage certificate cannot be located anywhere at this point. I do know that Ala. Jehu had 2 daughters named Rachel and Catherine (only children that I have at this point). It also appears that Jehu may have lived in Dickson/Davidson areas of TN for a short while. Note: On Rosanna tombstone it says wife of John Stuart but Jehu was known to sign his name Jehu Stuart.(????)

We also have letters with reference to Limestone, Ala. in regards to Daniel Carter Stewart b.1842 d. after 1894, m. Sarah Elizabeth Susannah Holcombe and was the son of Robert Stewart b.Jun.15,1815 d. Jan. 6,1886 and Elizabeth Durham b. Nov. 26, 1818 d. Nov. 12, 1902. (Robert and Elizabeth Durham were married May 20, 1838 and she was the daughter of Daniel Durham and Gizzael Moody). Daniel Carter Stewart had possible brothers named Eugene, Henry (Henery) and Robert. I haven't been able to confirm family members here. But I do know that Daniel Carter Stewart was my great-grandfather. This is a work in progress. Note: I believe but haven't been able to confirm as of yet that perhaps Durhams and Moodys have Ala. connection.

I hope this has helped. Do any of these names look familiar? I have more info on some of my uncles and aunts. I also have been able so far to trace back to Robert Stuart b.1655 in Perthsire, Scotland d. 1714 in Edinburgh, Scotland. m. Jeanette (Janette ?) Forsythe (Forsyth?).
