Alexander H. Pool, son of Alexander H. and Salome (Bierer) Pool, was born October 13. 1858, and reeeived a common school education. Until the age of sixteen or seventeen he worked on the farm and then learned the butcher’s business with Jerry Waughaman, of Harrison City. In that place, at the age of eighteen, he opened his own shop which he conducted for two years, and then moved to Irwin where he was in the same line of business for twelve or thirteen years. At the end of that time he went to Manor and opened the Hotel Pool, of which he was for two years the successful proprietor. He then bought his present property in Manor, opened a meat shop, and has conducted a thriving business ever since. He has served one term as burgess at Irwin and six years in the council at Manor. He is a member of Manor Lodge, K.G. E., and in politics affiliates with the Democrats. For two years he has served as elder in the Reformed church.
