With John and Daniel Brought/Braught in Rev. War 8th Battalion 2nd Company of Lancaster, PA. militia was 6th Class Arch'd Mcalister (PA Archives 5th Series vol 7, pg. 868. Archives Series 5 Vol. 1, page 285: Recruits enlisted by Capt. John Hasht 20 May 1759 included Pvt. Alexander McAllister, age 24, born Donegal, Ireland, enlisted 6 May 1759; laborer. Ancestry (WWW) reports marriage of Mary McAllister and Thomas Cromby on Aug.25, 1775. That Mary could be a younger sister, first child daughter, or Niece to this Alexander. In PA Archives Ser.5, Vol.7 on page 868, there is 6thClass Achd. McAlister (assumed to mean Archibald?), who would logically be a brother to this Alexander. Although records vary on the double l's in surname spelling, records otherwise seem to offer consistent spellings of surname. The Daniel Braught diary mentions the McAlister family in Burlington, IA after 1833. Archibald McAlister is found at Dauphin Co., PA in 1790 Census, M637 Roll 8, part 2-8, pg. 221.There are other McAlister names in that census at Fayette Co., PA; 2 at York Co., PA, 2 at Georgetown Co.,SC; 3 at Cumberland Co., PA; Washington Co., MD; in addition to this one in Dauphin Co., PA. In Berks Co., PA wills 1682-1834 there is an April 8, 1808 intestate will for Archibald McAllister (see FTW CD#209) and on page 146 a will for John Lebo that mentions Elizabeth Marks. |
