Belle Sweet said he was 'adopted' by the Peasley's, and he is with them on the 1900 census in Milton Township, Antrim County, Michigan. In 1910, he is with his mother and step-father in Echo Township, Antrim County. In 1920, after his wife's death, he is a lodger with Belle Sweet and her family in Echo Township. In 1930 he and his family are in Marion Township, Charlevoix County, Michigan. Obituary HOLMES RITES Funeral service for Alex Holmes of 510 - 26th Ave., who died at 8 a.m. Monday after a lingering illness will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hovis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fenton Malcolm officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery. Mr. Holmes was born in East Jordan on Feb. 12, 1890 and had resided in Sault Ste. Marie for 18 years, coming here from Bear Lake. He had been a farmer and was a member of Community Baptist Church. He was married in Blair Nov. 10, 1925 to his wife, Grace, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert O'Dell of Houston, Miss, and three daughters, Mrs. V.C. (Agnes) Ashcraft of Elkhart, Ind., Mrs. Merlin (Dorothy) Veysey of Sault Ste. Marie, and Mrs. Carl (Effie) Kern of Highland; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Calling hours at the Hovie Funeral Home will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
