Alexander P. Hefner, Jr., 79, Topeka, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014.
Alex was born February 24, 1935, in Topeka, the son of Alexander and Catherine Kamer Hefner. He was a 1955 graduate of Hayden High School and served our country in the US Army. He was a carman for Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement. Alex was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Legion of Mary. He made and repaired rosaries and was exceptionally talented at repairing statues, returning them to like new condition. Alex was liked by all but was singled out by toddlers who always approached him and wanted to be picked up.
Survivors include Alex's brother, Al Hefner (Jorita) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lucille Daniels and brother, Ralph Hefner.
A parish rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Monday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where family will greet friends until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
