Alexander's mum Sarah fell pregnant late in life, maybe this is why Alexander was born premature, it's said his parents took him to hospital in a shoe box. Alex's mum died young, in 1935 and when his dad died in 1942 Alex was aged just ten. His sister Muriel took him in and raised him. Alex Joined the army on 22 June 1949. After basic training was sent to Japan and was part of the UN occupation forces. When the Korean war began he was sent as part of the United Nations forces.He . He was part of the 3RAR battalion Charlie company his serial number was 5/1188. Alex was removed from the front line due to trench foot and slight frost bite. After getting back to Australia he was stationed at Gladstone army camp. This is the time he met Patrica Davies in Port Pirie SA. Alex was dischared from the army on the 10th of Aug 1955. Alex did a timer machinist re-pat course after getting married he then worked as a timer machinist at Bodens in Port Pirie. Alex and Pat lived in Port Pirie until 1971 when they moved to Perth to be close to dads relatives. After working in the timber industry for many years as a Timber Machinist and steward dad, was offered the job as union secretary, at first he said no but 6 months later took the job. He worked as union secretary until his retirement in 1991. Alex retied aged 60. Image Gallery
