  18. "Albert E. Armbruster, retired owner of the old Armbruster Scenic Studio,died Monday at his home, 3102 North High Street. He was 97. TheArmbruster studio, designer of custom-built stage settings, was foundedby his father, Matthias, in 1845. The studio was located for many yearsat 249 Southpark Street. Mr. Armbruster started in the business as apaint boy at the age of 14. He became owner upon his father's death in1920. All of the famed minstrels in the early part of the century wereArmbruster customers, as were many Shakespearean producers and FortuneGallo of the San Carlo Opera Company. The firm had once supplied thedemand of Broadway extravaganza, along with productions at the HartmanTheatre and Masonic Temple. In 1890, this when Elmer Eaton Vance,producer of "The Limited Mail," brought about a revolution in the stagescenery business by ordering untrained which could be moved across thestage, Armbruster is obliged mounting the canvas on cables and pulleys.In later years, schools and organizations rented Mr. Armbruster'sscenery products. Mr. Armbruster, Long identified with cultural and artcircles in Columbus, also exhibited his paintings in shows at theSouthern Hotel Art Gallery. Mr. Armbruster was a past president of theColumbus Maennerchor and a member of Humboldt Lodge of Masons, ScottishRite and Shrine. Nieces and nephews survive. Service will be at 2 PMWednesday at Southwick funeral home, where friends may call from 7 to 9PM Monday and Tuesday." and then on the same page found withing thedeaths is this lisiting: "Albert E. Armbruster, age 97, 3102 North HighStreet. Retired owner of Armbruster's Service Studios. Past presidentof Columbus Maennerchor. Member of Humboldt Lodge F.& AM, York Council,Scottish rite, Aladdin Shrine, member of Lutheran Church. Survived byseveral nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Southwick funeralhome, 3100 North High Street, 7 to 9 PM Monday and Tuesday, whereservices will be 2 PM, Wednesday. Intombment Amaranth Abbey."
