Alan Henry Swinton was born on 15 March 1896.1 He was the son of Captain George Sitwell Campbell Swinton and Elizabeth Ebsworth.2 He and Mariora Hankey were divorced.1 He married Mariora Hankey, daughter of Colonel Cecil Alers Hankey, on 2 October 1923.1 He married Jessie Elizabeth Amanda Baker, daughter of Edward Charles Baker, in 1945 at Kimmerghame, Berwickshire, Scotland. He died on 21 April 1972 at age 76.1
He was joined Scots , WW I (severely wounded, despatches), commander 1st Battalion 1933–37, Brigadier WW II, Honour Sheriff Substitute for Berwickshire 1954, memb Royal County of Archers, Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) Scot Gds 1914.1 He was educated U College Sch and RMC.1 He lived Kimmerghame.1 He was Military Cross (M.C.) in 1915.1
